Welcome! I’m Molly – the photographer, writer, and recipe developer behind Spices in My DNA and the cookbook author of Eat More Plants. I’m SO happy you’re here.
This is a space where I share mostly healthy, seasonal, vegetable-focused recipes with a sprinkle of indulgence mixed in. Because what’s life without both, right?! My cooking style can be described as vibrant, unique, seasonal, and balanced, with a gourmet flair. I’ve been insanely passionate about food for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a family where the kitchen was always the gathering place of the home, and good food was cherished with the memories that surrounded it. Because of my upbringing, I was surrounded by phenomenal cooking from an early age, and immediately fell in love with everything about food. It’s all I think about all day, every day. And that’s no exaggeration.
In this corner of the internet, you will find super flavorful, unique, and healthy recipes, as well as indulgent, comforting meals we all know and love.
A little more about me:
There is NOTHING I don’t eat. With the exception of goat cheese. I cannot stand the taste of it. Weird, right?! Pretty sure I’m the only food-obsessed person who doesn’t like it.
I’ve always had an insane appetite, and I’ve been told that I ate more than my brother from the time I was two years old (he’s 5 years older than me!). Fun fact: I never get full. It’s a weird and dangerous thing. But I can probably count on one hand how many times I ACTUALLY get full per year. It usually takes something super rich and decadent.
I grew up eating tons of pasta and more traditional “American” food, but always was up for trying new things. My mom made it a point to serve us food from a variety of different cultures and flavor profiles, and I am so thankful for that. It’s definitely made me the adventurous eater and culturally expansive food-lover I am today.
I LOVE to cook seasonally. You’ll definitely see that on this site. Hence this Fall Harvest Salad, Autumn Loaded Guac, Winter Sweet Potato Salad, and Summer Grain Salad. And I could go on and on! There’s nothing like using the beautiful seasonal produce and being inspired by the flavors of the season. Fall is my absolute favorite. In addition to loving seasonal cooking, seasonal traditions have a huge place in my heart and in my kitchen. You’ll find that a lot of the recipes and thoughts I share here, are deeply grounded in memories and tradition.
Foods I cannot live without (this was really hard to narrow down, and in no particular order): avocado, pasta, eggs, bread, peanut butter, tacos, guacamole, pizza, salad, chips, fries, blueberries, and mac & cheese.
Favorite beverages (in no particular order): Water (I drink A TON), coffee, red wine, and margaritas.
You can also find me on social on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and YouTube.
